“My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses to the King.”

-Psalm 45:1a

I remember the day God became 3-demensional to me. I was in middle school, shoulders bent over my phone to a YouTube video of spoken-word poetry. When I heard the rhythm and alliteration, my heart began to see a God that lived outside of pages and pulpits. As soon as that reality became evident, I immediately wanted to show it to others too.

With the exception of a few art classes as a child, my technical skills are completely self-taught. I experimented with a variety of techniques, and fell in love with the complexities of abstract realism as I began to hone in my skills to share with the world. The style allowed me to fill the canvas like air in my chest with the narratives in my mind’s eye.

In terms of writing, poetry was more of a short-term love than a long-term commitment. I enjoyed the descriptiveness and flow of language, but had a deeper craving for the communication of logical ideas. My love for Scripture filled this, as I was and continue to be awestruck by the ideas wrapped in beautiful poems, parables, historical accounts, and other genres that make up the Bible. As my walk of faith deepened, I discovered I could use poetic linguistics to point to the beauty of the ultimate Creator and His thoughts toward us.

Growing in both of these mediums revealed a deeper love for art with narratives. As time went on, I began to intertwine the stories and symbolism together, molding a creative experience through abstract realism paintings paired with short prose-style devotionals.

Combining painting and writing quenched my thirst for creativity and logic in what felt like finding the words for a conversation I had always wanted to have. My hope is that these pieces will have a similar effect on your soul, and your curiosity and perspective will softly grow by the hand of a God that has a character, not just a standard.
